Reading Group

The Newman Centre Reading Group will be meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 to discuss when we’ll be meeting this semester and introduce our topic. This semester, in honour of the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea we will be delving into the council texts themselves and the texts of various doctors of the church and other scholar saints.

Newman Advent Retreat

On Sunday December 1, the Newman Centre will be having our Advent Retreat. The retreat will be animated by Fr. John Meehan, SJ who will help us prepare for the coming of Christ by guiding us through the spirituality of the Incarnation from the perspective of St. Ignatius of Loyola's Spiritual Exercises.

The Claude Ryan Lecture in Catholic Social Thought

On November 26, Daniel M. Cere, Associate Professor of Religion, Law, and Public Policy at McGill's School of Religious Studies will be giving the 2024/2025 Claude Ryan Lecture in Catholic Social Thought. A small reception will follow the lecture to celebrate Claude Ryan's contribution to the Newman Centre and commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing.

The Newman Catholic Students’ Society invites you to our second Taizé Prayer Service of the year. The theme of this year’s service is remembrance of of all our deceased loved ones. We will offer our prayers for the repose of their souls by singing and listening to the Word of God.

Catholic Trivia Night

The NCSS invites you to our second annual Catholic Trivia Night

at the Newman Centre on November 13th at 6:00 PM!

Whether you're a seasoned scholar or just curious, everyone is welcome to participate.

Gather your friends, family, or fellow classmates and sign up as a team of up to 6 participants. Don't have a team? No problem! We'll assign you to a team on the spot, and you'll make new friends in no time. Food will be provided and winners will be added to the NCSS trophy!

Retreat Interest Form
Are you interested in a retreat with the Newman Centre?
Retreats are a great way to step back from our daily routines and to grow spiritually and in the community. We would love to organize more retreats, and we want to hear more from the Newman community. Please fill out this survey so that we can gauge interest in potential retreats.

Our Reading Group continues on Tuesday at 5. We will be reading chapters forty-one to fifty of Julian of Norwich's Book of Showings. Copies are on the Coffee Table.

Centre Hours

The Newman Centre is open weekdays from 9:00AM-9:00PM (extended hours on some days) and on weekends during scheduled events such as Mass.
 

All students are welcome to study at the Newman Centre during weekday hours, free coffee and tea will be provided!

 

Parking at Newman

Parking spaces are reserved for staff, all others by permission only. Fees apply. See a member of staff before parking. Unidentified vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
