The Newman Chapel Choir is having auditions today @ the Newman Centre (main floor by the piano). For information, contact Adam W. Begley (music@newmancentre.org), Director of Music.
About: A vibrant ensemble of McGill students and young professionals from diverse fields, the Newman Chapel Choir offers engaging choral music in weekly Masses, concerts and tours. The Choir is at the heart of Catholic musical life at the University—whether in rehearsal, on retreat, or hosting a workshop with young composers or visiting artists. Weekly singing offers students the opportunity to encounter the treasury of the Catholic musical heritage, to engage deeply with the faith, and to offer their talents in service of their community.
The Chapel Choir maintains an active lecture series on music and theology, sings for the liturgies of Triduum, Midnight Mass, and termly Compline, and hosts a biannual coffeehouse showcasing student composers, performers, and bands. Ensconced in a growing and dynamic Chaplaincy, the Choir explores a wide array of repertoire from Josquin and Byrd to the music of Millennial composers.
We are always looking to welcome new singers and instrumentalists! Membership in the Choir is open to students and non-students; Catholics and non-Catholics alike. For information about our repertoire, choir retreats, or auditions, please contact the Director of Music at music@newmancentre.org.
